John D. Loftin did graduate work at Harvard Divinity School and took a PhD in religion from Duke University. He has published a number of scholarly articles and two books related to American Indian religion and world history of religions.

John is currently teaching part-time at the University of North Carolina Greensboro in addition to practicing law full-time. The namesake and oldest grandson of the late federal Judge John D. Larkins, Jr., John is a third generation lawyer whose family has cumulatively practiced law in the state of North Carolina for more than one-hundred years. John is a proud father of a son, John, II who graduated from Appalachian State University and now works for the Duke University Medical Center.  His son's avocation is comedy and John, II regularly performs in area night clubs and has recently performed in front of a sold out audience in Chicago.

John married his lovely wife, Sarah, in May, 2007.  Sarah, like John, is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she majored in English.  A veteran educator, she is currently teaching kindergarten at South Graham Elementary School.   Sarah has two sons, Josh, a scholarship football player at Mars Hill College, and Jeff, a high school senior at Cedar Ridge High School.
